Family Therapy
Family therapy is used to reduce distress by enhancing interactions between family members. The goal of family therapy may be to help family members improve communications, better understand and address family problems, and resolve conflicts. Family therapy can also help family members address difficult family situations such as a death, health issues, and child or adolescent challenges. During family therapy, the psychologist conceptualizes the presenting problems in the context of systems rather than at the individual level. Through this “systems’ approach, the psychologist helps the family understand how individual behaviors impact the family system. This conceptualization guides all aspects of the treatment plan.
